About the Symposium
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are promising systems for clean and efficient power generation from a
variety of fuels including hydrocarbons and renewable?/coal?derived fuels. Advanced SOFC systems are
being developed for various applications, e.g. centralized/distributed stationary power generation,
automotive auxiliary powers, and portable devices. Significant progress has been made in the areas of
materials, cell/stack designs, component fabrication, simulation, fuel processing, and systems operation.
Major R&D focus continues to be on new materials design, performance enhancement, degradation
mitigation, and cost reduction.
This symposium is intended to bring together scientists and engineers in South Korea and UK who are
interested in SOFC degradation phenomena and related science/technologies, and it will cover both basic
and applied researches in the following areas:
(1) Diagnostic/analytical techniques to identify the degradation mechanisms;
(2) Accelerated test methodologies for durability studies;
(3) Experimental/simulation analysis for prediction of SOFC lifetimes; and
(4) Advanced materials/cells/stacks and their performance/durability
